Bus Travel

Traveling as everyone knows is an indispensable activity for mankind. In this fast paced world, there can be no individual who does not travel for his livelihood. While travel may either be for occupational or recreational purposes, the different modes of travel that people use, depends largely on their comfort and affordability. Bus travel is the most commonly used mode of travel by many. This is so because of the number of people that the buses can transport at a time and also the distances that can be covered by it. People usually prefer bus travel for long distances, as it does not require any prior reservation, unlike train travel and also can be chosen in a very short notice. Let us consider bus travel under two categories namely: Occupational/Short distance bus travel: Short distance bus travel includes the services of the town buses or the government buses which the general public use, in their day to day lives. Here, usually the fares are low and the travel time is also short. However the comfort that the passengers get during the bus travel is not commendable. Office goers and students, who use these on a daily basis, face a lot of difficulties such as crowd and antisocial elements. The passengers generally, purchase the tickets once they board the bus and frequent travelers make use of bus passes, which can be procured by following certain procedures. Bus travel for such passengers is not a pleasant experience and is resorted mostly by people of the low and middle-income societies. Recreational/Long distance travel: Long distance traveling is made mostly for recreational purposes. Long distance bus travel requires more order from the part of both the passenger and the bus crew. Though plans for long distance bus travel can be made within a short notice, it is always better to approach a travel agent, who would provide all the information necessary for a smooth ride. While choosing government buses for long travel, one must always keep in mind, the time or season in which they plan to travel. Festive seasons attract a lot of crowd and many people may prefer government buses to private transport for the cost factor. Private transport has many advantages. The booking is done in advance for the bus travel to the desired destination. The amount paid is reflected on the quality of the buses and the comfort that one might get during the bus travel. Many of the buses these days have added elements of luxury such as air-conditioning and entertainment, to make the bus travel more enjoyable.  These are some tips that people can follow during bus travel whether it is short or long: For short distance travel:  Try maximum to avoid crowded buses. It is always better to start early and travel comfortably without the fear of miscreants. Never carry valuables on a crowded bus. Other alternate means of travel can be sought during such necessities. Always make sure of where to get off the bus. This can be confirmed with the conductor, to avoid any confusion. Co-operate with other travelers and don’t cause discomfort to them. For long distance travel: Long distance bus travel may involve a long time of travel. At such times, it is always advised to stay awake and be alert of all the valuables that are carried. Many people may feel nauseous during long bus travels. A simple tip is to carry a lemon along. Breathing in the scent of the lemon is supposed to bring down the discomfort. Co-travelers must be respected always. Conversations with strangers should be avoided as much as possible. Bus travel is a part and parcel of everybody’s life. It is the most affordable and wise choice for travel.
